Tracy McPhillips
Newborn Care
Background:
I attended Washington State University and majored in Psychology with emphasis in Child and Family Studies. After working with medically fragile children, I worked with teens in the community. Having my own children, led me to the field of childbirth. My childbirth educator certifications include Lamaze and Great Starts. Additionally, I am a certified Postpartum doula with DONA International. I train postpartum doulas and childbirth educators at Simkin Center at Bastyr University. Member of the Education Committee for Great Starts as well as the Certification Committee for DONA International.
Philosophy:
I support families in their choices for childbirth and postpartum, by providing unbiased, evidence based information, in a fun and energetic format, that includes practice and sharing ideas. In our time together, you will see my passion, compassion and honesty, as we learn together what is right for you.
Family, hobbies, etc:
Spending time with my two kids, listening to my partner share his passion for music, camping and knitting all with a cup of tea in my hand… my happy place!
Favorite thing about teaching:
It’s important to me to set up space where class members can share experiences, ask questions, discuss concerns and find their best methods of informed decision making.
What best describes teaching style:
Knowledgeable
Humorous
Flexible
Experienced
Is there anything you’d like your students to know about you, or to do prior to coming to class?
I want you to practice feeling your best. Bring what you need from water/snacks to pillows for chairs. I like to hear what you have to say and what you x questions have.
